Gene Editing Perspectives

This digital gallery activity explored what people think about gene editing technologies. In a gallery, people tapped yes or no to vote on whether they would choose certain traits for their children. Each question and trait was associated with one part of the body. The number of votes affected the brightness of the organ system associated with each trait, leading to the central visualization reflecting all audience answers. For instance, if you responded that you would choose to increase your child’s athleticism, the leg muscle groups in the image of the child would appear more white and brighter. If you chose to say yes to influencing height, the spine and leg bones would be brighter. The central image design was inspired by the aesthetics of x-ray images and MRI.
